Born and raised in Harlem, Carolyn D. Johnson is the president and owner of Welcome to Harlem, a local tour company dedicated to preserving the colorful history and cultural richness of this historical neighborhood since 2004. As president and owner of Welcome to Harlem, she strives to honor Harlem's historic legacy and culture. In 2014, Johnson and Craig Harris founded Harlem Jazz Boxx to give regular live jazz performances at an affordable rate. Working for over 40 years as a jazz expert, Harris is the curator of the Harlem Jazz Series. Johnson has also created Harlem Roots, an online educational program for kids, as well as Harlem-Olopy (Harlem Renaissance Edition). She is a graduate of the City University of New York, a licensed guide, and co-author of The Harlem Travel Guide.
